The version of the VT8237 SATA/RAID Controller chipset on your board will simply not work with SATA DVD burners---Likewise the Promise-378 or PDC20378 chipset SATA/RAID controller also will not work with SATA DVD burners because the standards that existed when those chipsets were designed pre-dated SATA DVD burners.....later revisions of the VT8237 such as the VT8237 Plus or VT8237-R sometimes work but it depends if the revision is real or simply stamped.
Your only option will be to get a PCI based SATA controller card that is fully SATA II compliant for not only SATA II drives but supports the DVD burners that are SATA as opposed to IDE. The key here will be a card that is compatible with the rest of your rig and what PCI slot you decide to install it into.....
